The state House this week unanimously approved a bill to repeal the Balanced Multimodal Transportation Policy Commission, and while the bill’s prime sponsor is Senator Joe Pittman, it was initially introduced by the late Senator David Arnold, who passed away earlier this year.
The commission that would be appealed has never met. Senate Bill 89 was unanimously approved by the Senate in March.
Pittman says his name is on the legislation, but it is truly Senator Dave Arnold’s bill, and he is honored to move the bill through the legislative process as a way to preserve Arnold’s legacy.
After Senator Mike Folmer resigned, Arnold won a special election to fulfill the rest of Folmer’s term. He represented to 48th District, which is comprised of Lebanon County and parts of Dauphin and York counties, from January of last year until his death from brain cancer in January of this year.
The bill now moves to Governor Tom Wolf for his signature.
