Members of the Pennsylvania State Police continue to prevent criminal activity by warning residents of the dangers of online dating.
Public Information Officer Trooper Cliff Greenfield said that, due to recent incidents reported in the region, troopers wanted to warn residents of potential dangers online dating poses including scams, identity theft, stalking and even sexual assault.
Some tips troopers give are:
- Keep contact information private.
- Verify the identities of people you’re meeting.
- Be smart when meeting someone face-to-face.
- Don’t be afraid to report someone.
Troopers add that when meeting someone in-person, it is best to meet in a public place or in a group setting, and always let someone know where you plan to meet and when you’ll be home.
