The state yesterday announced that fifty municipalities will receive more than $15.6 million for traffic signal improvements, including funding for the traffic signal project at Ben Franklin and Warren roads in White Township.
In a joint release, Senator Joe Pittman and Representative Jim Struzzi say $188,000 is earmarked for the project, which Pittman says will aid traffic flow through one of the most congested intersection in Indiana County, noting the presence there of the Indiana Fire Association White Township Station; and which Struzzi says is “an important step in what should be a long-term effort to overhaul traffic flow along Ben Franklin Road.”
The township will use the funds to replace traffic signal supports and add pedestrian accommodations.
The project has been years in the making and had had to undergo a redesign after original bids were well over the budgeted amount…one fifty percent higher and the other twice as high.
The funds were awarded from the sixth round of PennDOT’s “Green Light-Go” program.
