The Pirates’ woes continued last night in Cincinnati, suffering another embarrassing loss to the Reds.
Greg Brown has the story.
After going 4-for-5 with two home runs on Friday night and raising his batting average to .305 with 14 homers at Indianapolis, Anthony Alford was called back up to the big league club and was 3-for-4 with two doubles, playing in left field for the Pirates. Centerfielder Bryan Reynolds was also 3-for-4, with a triple and a home run.
The Pirates optioned infielder Phillip Evans to Indianapolis and reinstated infielder Erik Gonzalez from the injured list, then designated Gonzalez for assignment. Evans hit .208 with five homers for the Pirates this season and Gonzalez batted .232 with two home runs.
