Indiana County’s Emergency Management Director said during the County Commissioners meeting this morning that Indiana County’s Covid numbers are continuing to increase.
Director Tom Stutzman said that the county continues to see increases in positive and pending cases, with more than 7.14 new cases a day. That level has not been seen in the county since April of last year. According to the CDC, the county is currently in the substantial transmission rate classification, which does not merit any mask mandates right now. As of today, there have been 6,580 covid-19 cases in Indiana County.
Stutzman was happy with the fact that testing increased in the county from 17 tests a day two weeks ago to 31 tests a day today. But he added that vaccination rates continue to lag behind.
Stutzman and the Commissioners continue to encourage everyone who is able to get vaccinated.
In other business, the Commissioners approved resolutions for the county’s designated Community Development Block Grant entitlement communities, which include Indiana Borough and Center and Burrell Townships. The resolutions approve the cooperation agreements between the county and the municipalities to submit 2021 CDBG applications on their behalf and administer the programs.
The Commissioners also wanted to remind everyone that property taxes for 2021 will not have penalties for this year, and remind people to pay the taxes at face value. The Commissioners also congratulated Sherene Hess for being honored with the President’s Award from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania.
