Earlier today, the IUP community paid tribute to those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks that happened nearly 20 years ago.
The ceremony was held in IUP’s Oak Grove near the 9/11 artifact that is on display. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said that after seeing the selflessness of the first responders, many were inspired to volunteer themselves.
The guest speaker for this year’s ceremony was Tim Lambert, a graduate of the class of 1992 and an award-winning journalist who has a personal connection with the events of 9/11 as part of the crash site of Flight 93 in Shanksville was on his property. He recounted a story of a family member of one of the victims of Flight 93 visiting the site for the first time, and learning that he was a journalist.
This marks the first of two ceremonies in Indiana to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Another ceremony is set for 11:00 AM tomorrow as part of the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival.
