Pittsburgh native and former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead was named the head football coach of the Akron Zips yesterday.
Moorhead was Mississippi State’s head coach from 2018-19, posting a 14-12 record.
He was a Zips assistant in 2005 when Akron won their only Mid-American Conference football championship, but now inherits a program from Tom Arth that’s won just three games in three seasons.
