Pitt football did not add to its recruiting class after the December signing period. The Panthers signed only twelve players on the first national signing day two months ago, so this will be coach Pat Narduzzi’s smallest recruiting class.
Narduzzi did make news yesterday when he charged that Notre Dame tried to recruit Pitt’s Kenny Pickett to play his senior season for the Fighting Irish last year. He said it was through “back channels” and was not the Notre Dame coaching staff, but he said tampering of that sort is becoming a very serious problem in the NCAA.
Frank Cignetti Jr. yesterday held his first news conference since being named Pitt’s offensive coordinator last week. He said it was great to be home again, noting that his parents still live here in Indiana and he has two sisters living in the Pine Richland School District.
Cignetti said he loves Pitt’s wide receivers, which he said was “an unbelievable group” led by Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison, and he’s impressed by the offensive line and backfield players as well. One of his primary goals will be improving and utilizing Pitt’s run game more.
BASKETBALL
After so many close losses early in the season, the Pitt Panthers last night continued their recent trend of losing by large margins, falling to Wake Forest, 91-75. The Demon Deacons hit fifteen three-pointers in the game in handing the Panthers their fourth loss in five games.
Femi Odukale led Pitt with 23 points.
Pitt will host Virginia Tech on Saturday night at 7:00.
