The newest scam warning comes from the state Public Utility Commission, which says people should be on the lookout for unsolicited telemarketing calls requesting immediate action and promising savings on energy bills.
The PUC says the calls often appear as a local telephone number on your caller ID, which is usually a fake or “spoofed” number, or the calls fail to display any number at all. The agency says that if the sales agents fail to immediately identify themselves and the reason for their call, you should hang up.
