Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. has identified the victim in a fatal crash that happened yesterday in Strongstown.
19-year-old Alivia Renae Chila of Northern Cambria was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Route 422 and Route 403 in Pine Township. Chila was driving in the right-hand lane of 403 South while the Tri-Axle truck driven by a 75-year-old New Castle man was coming west on 422. The car did not stop at the intersection and while the truck driver tried to swerve to get out of the way, he was unable to avoid hitting the car on the driver’s side.
Chila was pronounced dead at the scene, with Overman saying she died on impact. She was wearing her seat belt at the time. State police say her passenger, an 18-year-old Northern Cambria woman was flown from the scene to UPMC Altoona for treatment of injuries.
PennDOT had closed the road for three hours. Pine Township and Cherryhill Township fire crews were assisted on scene by state police and Citizens’ Ambulance. Pine Township stayed on the scene as a second crash was reported in the area where traffic was closed off on Route 422 close to Ark’s garage near the Cambria County line. Three people were injured in that chain-reaction crash involving at least three vehicles. One was taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation, while the other two refused treatment.
Moriconi Funeral Home in Northern Cambria is handling the funeral arrangements.
