The Pirates broke their seven-game losing streak with a shutout in Philadelphia yesterday, just one game removed from being shut out themselves the night before.
Joe Block reports.
The Pirates move on to Milwaukee for a three-game series with the Brewers, starting tonight. The Bucs were going to start JT Brubaker, but he was placed on the paternity list last night. They’ve not named a starter. The Brewers will go with reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes (8-6, 2,84 ERA). It’s a 7:45 airtime on WCCS, with first pitch at 8:10.
With JT Brubaker on the paternity list, the Bucs added Robert Stephenson to the roster. They claimed Stephenson off waivers from the Rockies on Saturday. The former Reds first round draft pick was 2-1 with a 6.04 ERA for Colorado in 45 appearances this season.
ALTOONA
Altoona gave up two runs on a walk and a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning and lost to Bowie, 5-4. Catcher Endy Rodriguez continued his red-hot start at Double-A with a 3-for-4 day with a double and three RBIs. He has six hits in his last two games. The Curve lost third baseman Jared Triolo to an injury suffered as he crossed home plate on a Rodriguez single in the 6th inning.
The Curve fell under .500, at 59-60, and will return to Altoona to open a six-game series with Akron tomorrow night.
