The Pirates open a three game series with NL Central-leading St. Louis tonight at PNC Park.
Greg Brown previews the game.
Pirates closer David Bednar is the team’s nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, given to the Major League Baseball player who best represents the game “through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” All of the nominees will be honored at each MLB ballpark on September 15th, Roberto Clemente Day.
MLB
The MLB competition committee today is voting on rules changes that would speed up the game. Some of the proposed changes include a 15-second pitch clock, the elimination of the infield shift, bigger bases and a limit to how many times a pitcher can step off the rubber. The changes would take effect next season.
ALTOONA
The Altoona Curve were trounced by Erie, 9-2 last night. Catcher Endy Rodriguez played second base for the Curve and had two hits. Connor Scott and Andres Alvarez also had two hits.
Quinn Priester starts for the Curve tonight.
