Tomorrow marks the end of Daylight Saving Time, which means that before you go to bed tonight, you should move your clock back one hour. And fire officials are reminding everyone that it is also a good time to check on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
In a news release, PA State Fire Commissioner Charles McGarvey said that Fall is the perfect time of year for routine maintenance on the home, and that making sure that the batteries work in Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors should be a part of that routine. The commission says that dead or missing batteries are the most common cause of detector malfunctions.
Newer models of smoke alarms that are marketed as long-lasting may not need to have the batteries replaced, but should be tested just the same.
