Her album, “Voice of Nature: The Anthropocene”, was awarded the Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album. The album went up against opera albums from Joyce DiDonato, Will Liverman, Sasha Cooke and Nicholas Phan. In a post on her official Facebook page, Fleming said that she was surprised to learn the news, as all the nominees deserved the award.
The album was created during the pandemic when she was not on the road. Because of her schedule, she was able to team up with piano accompanist Yannick Nezet-Seguin. The album was inspired by nature, and how for many, including Fleming, the outdoors provided the balance needed when everything was upended by the pandemic.
The album was released on the Decca Classics label. This marks Fleming’s fifth Grammy award and 18th nomination.
