Triple-A East Central is reminding drivers to be careful if they plan on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend.
Celebrations are expected to be high with St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Friday this year, but safety is something that should always be kept in mind. The group advises people to plan ahead if their celebration will include alcohol consumption to prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol. This is as easy as designating a driver, taking a cab or ride share home or using public transportation.
If you’re hosting a party, Triple-A recommends serving non-alcoholic beverages to designated drivers and providing overnight accommodations to those who have been drinking. And if you see someone has had too much to drink, take the keys.
Also, if you see someone on the road that is suspected of driving under the influence, stay as far behind the vehicle as possible, and as soon as it is safe to do so, pull over and call 911.
