Another activity that increases in our area as the temperatures get warmer is the amount of burning that goes on, and the Indiana Fire Association is getting the word out about how those fires could lead to something worse.
On Tuesday, Indiana Fire Association responded to three brush fires, two of them within Indiana County and a third outside the county. Officials said that while the ground may be wet, the grass and brush have not had a chance to absorb that moisture, and the brown vegetation will burn vigorously.
Officials ask that people not burn at this time, but if they have to, if the fire jumps outside the burn barrel or fire ring, call 911 immediately and do not waste time in trying to put the fire out yourself. The quicker the fire department can get on the scene, the better the possibility that the fire will not spread into something bigger.
So far, 30 brush fires have been reported in Indiana County this year.
