At a meeting Tuesday night, the Center Township Supervisors issued a statement concerning the closure of the Homer City Generating Station.
Like other government officials, they feel that pressure from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative was one of the major reasons for the closure. Speaking on behalf of the supervisors, Jim Gatskie said that the supervisors were against RGGI from the beginning.
Gatskie added that the financial hit for the township should the plant close would be $64,957 in taxes.
In other business, the supervisors appointed Dan Steffey as the new Center Township representative to the Homer-Center Parks and Recreation Board, taking over for Tammy Housholder.
