Tuesday turned into a busy day for first responders in Indiana County as they responded to a total of eleven calls throughout the day.
While the day started early with a reported brush fire that turned out to be a false alarm, and calls involving an automatic fire alarm in White Township, utility lines down in Young Township and a fuel spill in Westmoreland County, crews would be busier in the afternoon. Two of the calls were for the Iselin fire department as they responded to two brush fire calls in Young Township. One was on Rosensteel Road at 12:20 PM, the other one was 35 minutes later on Cemetery Road. This marks the 35th and 36th brush fires reported in the county this year so far.
Indiana Fire Association members were called out multiple times as well yesterday. The first call was for a Carbon Monoxide Alarm on Carter Avenue at 7:29 PM. Less than a half-hour later, they were dispatched for a reported structure fire at an apartment on Oakland Avenue. Fire officials reported on the department’s Facebook page that the fire was a stove fire, and it was out by the time crews arrived. Crews stayed on scene for about 15 minutes to assist with ventilation.
Creekside fire department and Citizens’ Ambulance were dispatched to Spence Road in Washingotn Township for a carbon monoxide alarm activation at 3:21 PM.
And crews from the Blairsville and Black Lick fire department assisted Sheetz employees with the cleanup from a fuel spill at the Sheetz on Route 22 in Burrell Township at 10:50 last night.
