The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has upgraded Indiana County’s weather status for the remainder of the day.
Officials with the National Weather Service announced this morning that a Red Flag Warning is in effect in the southwest region of Pennsylvania, which includes all of Indiana County, until 8 o’clock this evening. A Red Flag Warning is issued when an area is under precipitation amounts, has low relative humidity and strong winds, typically anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour.
When asked if Red Flag Warnings are common, Accuweather meteorologist Jeff Nordeen said it depends on the season.
Along with the Red Flag Warning, the Indiana County Service & Fire Prevention Forester from the Gallitzin Forest District announced that the county is under a Fire Watch for the rest of the day. Residents are asked not to burn trash today and for the rest of the week.
