A showdown yesterday at United as undefeated Northern Cambria jumped on United for three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed, coming away with a 7-2 win. The Lions drew to within one run in the 2nd inning, but the Colts answered with three more in the 3rd and a single run in the 4th to lock it down. Evan Wiewora had a double and a triple and drove in two for Northern Cambria, which had only six hits but took advantage of five United errors. Shaun Gisler went 5-and-a-third innings for the Colts, surrendering only two hits while walking three and striking out nine to earn the win. Northern Cambria is 9-0, 7-0 in the Heritage Conference, with another big game this afternoon at home against 6-3 Homer-Center
A pitcher’s duel between Cambria Heights and Marion Center, with the Highlanders edging the Stingers, 1-0. Ty Stockley singled in an unearned run in the 5th inning. It was one of only two hits surrendered by Marion Center’s Dakota Bracken, who took the loss despite striking out eight over six innings. The Heights’ Garrett Jasper scattered three hits over six innings, striking out 12, and his Highlanders teammates committed no errors. Austin Sprague earned the save. For Marion Center, Bracken and Noah McCoy each had two hits.
Indiana took an 8-0 lead over Hampton and then held off a Talbots rally for a 12-8 win. The Indians scored five runs in the top of the 1st and three more in the 2nd, then one in the 5th and three in the 6th. Hampton put together a three-run 4th, scored two more in the 5th, and three in the 6th. Steven Budash led an 11-hit Indiana attack with three hits, including a double. Ben Ryen crushed a two-run home run and singled.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the 3rd, then added two in each of the next two innings on the way to a 7-2 win over Cambria Heights. The Stingers are 8-1 overall, 5-0 in the Heritage Conference. Lydia Miller had three hits, including a double and a two-run home run, and Lexi Roush had three hits, with two doubles. Cheyenne Silvis struck out seven for the win.
Northern Cambria lost a non-conference game against Huntingdon, 7-5.
