Students attending classes at the Indiana Junior High School today will see an increased police presence after a threat was reported at the school on Thursday.
According to a letter sent to district parents, a threat was directed towards the Junior High Building after students and staff had gone home for the night.
Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl announced in a statement this morning that 39-year-old Edward Michael Gamboa, Jr. of Indiana was arrested, and is now in Indiana County Jail charged with making terroristic threats. He said that it was information provided by the district that lead them to Gamboa’s arrest.
Gamboa was apprehended at the Sheetz on 4th Street in Indiana Borough.
District officials say that there is no active threat and classes will run normally today.
As an added layer of safety, staff will be on a heightened state of alert, and Indiana Borough Police will be present during student arrival, dismissal and throughout the day. In his statement, Chief Schawl thanked the school administrators for their prompt reporting of the incident and commitment to student safety.
