Funeral arrangements are now complete for Renda Broadcasting Vice President Alan Serena, who passed away last Friday after a four month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in 1952, Serena was inspired to go into radio after seeing live broadcasts when he was a child in the late 1950’s. He held several positions with Mon Valley radio stations before moving on to Renda Broadcasting station WIXZ in McKeesport in the 70’s and 80’s. In 1985, he started Serena Communications, which owned and operated WIXZ for the next 10 years. He joined Renda Broadcasting CEO Tony Renda as Vice President in 1997, and continued to work in a leadership role with Renda Broadcasting until his death.
Outside of radio, Serena was a passionate fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers football team and the Rolling Stones.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 20th from noon to 4 PM at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral home on Curry Hollow Road in Pittsburgh. Serena passed away at the age of 70.
