PA Governor Josh Shapiro announced that traffic will once again flow on a portion of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia very soon.
The news comes nearly two weeks after a portion of the major highway collapsed due to a tanker truck fire below the highway. Shapiro says that based on the progress that has been made and the steps that are left to complete the temporary roadway with six lanes, traffic will flow again on I-95 as soon as this weekend. Shapiro said the sooner-than-expected reopening shows what can happen when officials at all levels of government work together.
The temporary road that will fill the gap in the highway will be made up of a glass aggregate, according to PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll.
Crews have been working around the clock to reopen the highway as quickly and as safely as possible.
