The Indiana School District has issued a statement in reaction to the mass shooting at the Chevy Chase Community Center early Sunday morning.
In a letter sent to District Families, Superintendent Robert Heinrich said that the district has been in communication with state police, and it is not believed that any students in the school district were connected with the incident as the victims and most of the individuals involved were from outside the Indiana Community.
There is no school for students in the district today, as it is a scheduled ACT 80 day. Heinrich said there is no active threat against students or staff in the district and other than the fact that the shooting happened in close proximity to the Senior High School, there is nothing that should affect normal operations. There will be Indiana Borough Police officers present when students return to class on Tuesday, but Heinrich said that it is not prompted by the events from Sunday morning. Rather, it is part of their normal effort to provide a safe learning environment for their students.
