State Representative Brian Smith is criticizing State House Democrats who voted to cut money from two tax credit programs that are designed to help students.
In a Rules Committee meeting held last week, a motion was approved that cut $150 million in Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit and Educational Improvement Tax Credit scholarships. Smith said that the cut was an insult to students, and that House Democrats have “put Pennsylvania students on the back burner.” He said that the scholarships help kids get out of failing schools and into better ones. The program awards businesses with tax credits for investing in education, according to Smith.
He added that “Our kids shouldn’t feel trapped in poor-performing schools purely determined by where they were born. I will continue to fight for our students’ right to choose the best education options, and programs like OSTC and EITC that help make that decision a reality.”
