Local leaders are reacting to Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
State Representative Jim Struzzi said there are things in the budget that need more consideration, especially if they don’t want to raise taxes in the future.
Senator Joe Pittman voiced opposition to Shapiro’s vision for the Commonwealth. He called the budget “fiscally irresponsible and unsustainable,” and suggested that he find ways to disperse the $14 million in what Shapiro called a “surplus” back to the taxpayers. Pittman also said Senate Republicans share his standpoint in “losing to Ohio” when it comes to jobs, but Ohio is taking a more proactive approach in correcting those issues.
Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward said Shapiro covered spending in “so many realms” without discussing how he planned on paying for his plans. She adds he didn’t touch on the issues affecting families across the Commonwealth at this moment.
