The state Game Commission says hunters harvested an estimated 430,010 deer in Pennsylvania’s woods this past deer season, an increase of about two percent over the year before. That includes 171,600 bucks and 258,410 does.
The buck harvest was up five percent. Sixty-four percent of the bucks taken were more than two-and-a-half years old, owing to antler point restrictions. Sixty-nine percent of the harvest was adult females. Sixteen percent were button bucks and fourteen percent were doe fawns.
The report does not break down the numbers by county, but by Wildlife Management Units. Indiana County is mainly comprised of two units, 2D and 2E, plus a very small slice of 2C. In 2D and 2E, hunters took a combined 18,700 bucks and 34,200 does. Last year, there were 20,700 bucks taken in those two WMUs and 33,600 does.
