A Blairsville man was arrested Thursday morning after leading state police on a chase and possessing a large amount of methamphetamine.
Troopers say 24-year-old Jacob Isaiah Hankinson was charged with a felony count of manufacturing, delivering, or possessing with intent to deliver after he was found with a “large amount” of suspected methamphetamine, $1,340, and two cell phones. He also faces several misdemeanor and summary charges.
The charges stem after an incident Sunday evening when a member of the Troop A unit was on patrol along Main Street in Burrell Township and saw a blue 1998 BMW motorcycle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Blaire Road. The trooper also saw the driver, later identified as Hankinson, wearing headphones and a black backpack, and driving in an unsafe manner.
Hankinson allegedly took off along Blaire Road and later fled on foot into a nearby yard. Troopers caught up to him near a wooded creek bed area, and he was subsequently arrested. During the chase, he dropped the backpack near the creek area, and it contained seven baggies of suspected methamphetamine totaling 203 grams, a small amount of marijuana, a Pringles container with a hidden compartment in the bottom, and a grinder. It was also discovered Hankinson’s motorcycle was not registered and his license was suspended.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 13th at 9 AM.
