Indiana Borough Council last night gave permission to a local group to hold a Pride festival in IRMC park on June 8th.
During public comment sessions, those for and against the festival were able to voice their opinions. Chelsea Aydelotte with Indiana Pride, who will put on the show, said that she had concerns about last year’s event, but said that once there, she felt safe.
While an informal poll of the audience showed about two-thirds of the audience was against the festival, the council was 6-2 in favor of it being held. Tamara Collazzo and Jessica Frick voted against it, and Collazzo said that she was concerned about possible lewd activity during the event.
Borough Council also approved three other events: The Summer Family Fun Fest on June 1st at IRMC Park, the Downtown Indiana Car Cruise on Sunday, June 9th and the 100th birthday celebration for the Indiana Theater in the “00” block of Carpenter Avenue between Philadelphia Street on July 13th.
