Manager Derek Shelton says the Pirates bounced back from some adversity to make it a successful road trip.
Shelton says Mitch Keller showed his pitching maturity in holding back the Cubs.
The Bucs’ manager says his rotation has been outstanding, and will determine the team’s success this season.
Jack Suwinski says it was a big series win for the Pirates.
Suwinski hit his fourth home run in six career at bats against Jameson Taillon. He has no explanation for his success against the former Pirate, or for why he seems to hit so well in his hometown of Chicago.
Suwinski says it was great to see David Bednar bounce back after the Pirates’ closer gave up the winning run Saturday.
Relief pitcher Josh Fleming has cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to Indianapolis. Fleming was designated for assignment last Tuesday after going 1-1 with a 5.69 ERA in 17 appearances.
Catcher Jason Delay has been sent to Florida to continue his recovery from last month’s knee surgery and is expected to begin playing games in Bradenton later this week.
On The Ben Cherington Show on WCCS yesterday, assistant general manager Steve Sanders said Henry Davis is beginning to find his stroke at Indianapolis. Davis hit two home runs on Saturday and had another hit yesterday. He’s hitting .263 through 11 games with Indy since his demotion.
Pitcher Domingo German has advanced to Indianapolis. The former big leaguer threw a no-hitter for the Yankees last season but his career has been derailed by problems with alcohol and a 2019 investigation of alleged domestic abuse.
Sanders said one of the Pirates’ brightest prospects, pitcher Bubba Chandler, has landed on Altoona’s injured list with forearm tightness.

Brenden Dixon and Seth Beer each had three hits and Kervin Pichardo had two as Altoona beat Akron, 6-2. The Curve pounded out 11 hits in the game.
Altoona is off today and begins a 6-game visit to Erie tomorrow night.
