River Valley School District is teaming up with a national pharmacy chain to help get more nurses and pharmacists into the workforce.
CVS will place a training facility at the STEAM Academy, which will allow students to learn from a CVS Pharmacy Training Program perspective. When it opens, it will be the first of its kind in Pennsylvania. Superintendent Philip Martell said discussions between both entities started after CVS noticed the medical programs at the STEAM Academy, notably biomedical technology, career and health pathways, and sports & physical rehab management. No timetable has been set for the agreement between both sides.
Martell said discussions started three to four months ago after STEAM Director Shawna Little made the connection with CVS.
Along with the agreement with CVS, River Valley is also creating a pharmacy tech credential that will allow students to go into a pharmacy-related field in secondary education.
Martell adds this program will be a great way for students to get a “foot in the door” in the medical field.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the mock facility will take place sometime in August at the STEAM Academy. An exact date has not been set yet.
