Those interested in purchasing a wildlife management resource license plate will soon see a new design.
As the supply of the traditional otter wildlife management plates is running out, the design will be replaced with an eastern hellbender plate. Previous donations have helped re-establish the river otter, reintroduce osprey and research endangered species in Pennsylvania.
The new plate’s design is in line with the current plate design, but will feature an East Hellbender picture to the left of the plate. The East Hellbender is the largest salamander in the country and was named the state amphibian in 2019. Its image on the license plate will serve as a reminder of the need to restore water quality and preserve suitable habitats.
Anyone getting a wildlife management plate will get the new East Hellbender plate. If you want one of the remaining Otter plates, write “OTTER” on the top of the application before sending it in.
