The high school football season kicks off tonight and there are four games on our Renda Media stations, two of them on Renda Digital TV.
On WCCS and Renda Digital TV, Homer-Center welcomes United Valley. Wildcats coach Greg Page says they have to get off to a good start.
Page says United Valley graduated some very good players, but they have plenty of others who concern him.
After a 2-8 season last year, Page says his players have to take ownership of this year’s team if they’re going to turn things around.
After the retirement of Kevin Marabito, United Valley has a new man at the top, Lou McElwee, who knows what he’s up against in Homer-Center, and the Page legacy.
McElwee says the key to any game is what happens in the trenches.
Two of the Heritage Conference’s top contenders this year meet at Widmar Field in Blairsville, as River Valley hosts Cambria Heights.
Highlanders coach Jarrod Lewis has a talented, deep team, and he says line play and fundamentals will be key.
The Panthers’ Jess Houser knows what to expect from The Heights.
On 92.5 FM U92, two more teams that could be real factors in the Heritage Conference meet as Purchase Line visits Northern Cambria. They played an overtime game last season won by the Colts on an extra point kick off the crossbar.
The Red Dragons’ Matt Falisec has a good-sized group that he’s hoping will blend together youth with experience.
Colts coach Sam Shutty says his veteran players have really taken to the young guys on his team.
The other Heritage Conference games tonight include Marion Center at Portage, Penns Manor at Conemaugh Valley, and West Shamokin at Conemaugh Township,
On WDAD tonight, Matt Wright and Indiana Area open against Freeport for the second year in a row. Indiana beat the Yellowjackets 28-14 to kick off last season.
The coach says Freeport has great skill on offense, so ball possession will be a key.
All of the broadcasts begin with the Indiana Total Therapy Pregame Show at 6:30, with the exception of Homer-Center and United Valley, which begins at 6:20.
