Longtime local radio legend John Longo has passed away at the age of 83 at his retirement home in Florida.
Longo once owned WLCY in Blairsville, which he sold to Renda Media, and he also owned WCNS in Latrobe, purchasing both stations in 1989 after spending about 30 years in radio sales, marketing, and programming. He was named Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Broadcaster of the Year in 2000.
After his college years at Duquesne University with his friend Bill Hillgrove, Longo began his radio career as a disc jockey at WHJB in Greensburg. He was very active with the Westmoreland Air Show and the Latrobe Area Chamber of Commerce and was honored with the Chamber’s Community Service Award in 2009.
Longo passed away on the 60th anniversary of his marriage to his wife, Donna. Funeral arrangements are yet to be released.
