The Steelers opened practice yesterday for Sunday’s game at Indianapolis, and veteran guard Isaac Seumalo was back at work, practicing for the first time in four weeks after suffering a training camp pectoral injury. He was listed as limited on the official injury report.
Starting safety DeShon Elliott was the only addition to the injury report, with a quadriceps injury. He practiced, but was limited. Quarterback Russell Wilson is listed as limited again, with Justin Fields slated to start on Sunday.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith, running back Jaylen Warren and tight end MyCole Pruitt all sat out.
Linebacker Nick Herbig, who subbed for Highsmith and made a big splash on Sunday with two sacks against the Chargers, was the hot take for the media in the Steelers’ locker room after practice. He said he is still learning the NFL game and is always watching guys like TJ Watt, and even players on other teams.
The Colts have star running back Jonathan Taylor, who is averaging 5.1 yards per carry, but quarterback Anthony Richardson, averaging 6.5 yards per carry on 18 rushes this season, is also a threat. Rookie linebacker Payton Wilson says the Steelers have to pay attention to the 6-4, 244-pound Richardson.
Tight end Darnell Washington said yesterday he’s been fined $6,000 by the NFL for an illegal block against the Chargers, but he says he doesn’t know what play the league is referring to. The NFL hasn’t commented and the fine for a crackback block is $16,883, not $6,000. Fines are usually reported by the NFL on Thursday or Friday each week.
