The River Valley STEAM Academy in Saltsburg unveiled its new CVS Skills Lab during the school’s open house Wednesday evening.

Students interested in biomedical technology will be able to use hands-on and online learning tools to earn their pharmacy technician certification while at the STEAM Academy at no cost. Additionally, there will be a retail/sales component in which life skills students can earn industry credentials through the “Rise Up” program.
Superintendent Philip Martell said CVS wanted to help bring the one-of-a-kind facility to River Valley after they were contacted by STEAM Academy Director Dr. Shawna Little.
Little said the lab will help students get ready for life after school and develop a connection with CVS.
Senior Kira Fabian hopes to become a pharmacist once she graduates college and she said the CVS lab will be a great way to gain experience.
Senior Brenden Evans said the hands-on environment will benefit him as he prepares to enter nursing school.
CVS will maintain all facets of the facility while it’s in operation. Students are expected to start using the lab within the next few weeks.
