A former Pittsburgh Pirate player will come to Indiana today for the annual Indiana County Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Festivities for the annual chamber meeting start at 2:00 with a VIP event at the Indiana Country Club where Walker will have a private meet-and-greet. The meeting starts at 3:00, and Walker will be the keynote speaker.
A native of Pittsburgh, Walker played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball. Seven of those seasons were with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2009 to 2015 before playing for the Mets, Brewers, Yankees, Marlins and Phillies. He retired from play in 2021 but has joined the Pirates broadcast team as a color analyst.
Chamber president Mark Hilliard said he was inspired to invite Walker to the chamber meeting because of the impressive year that Indiana County baseball and softball teams have had, including an appearance by an Indiana County team at the Junior League World Series. Hilliard said that Walker’s speech will focus on overcoming the odds and adversity, and persevering through challenging times.
