Wreaths will be laid today at cemeteries across the country to pay tribute during the holidays to veterans who sacrificed their lives. That tribute will continue in Indiana County as well with the Wreaths for Indiana County Veterans program.
A formal wreath dedication ceremony will be held today at noon at the Indiana County Courthouse Veterans’ Wall. Volunteers will also lay a similar wreath at the entrance to every cemetery in the county prior to today’s event. This year marks the 10th year of the event in Indiana County. Wesley Wertz with VFW Post 1989 said the program began in 2015 and has grown each year and continues to do so.
The tribute is a joint effort of the local VFW, American Legion post 141, the Indana County Christmas Tree Growers Association and local volunteers. If you want to contribute financially, send a donatio to Wreaths for Indiana County Veterans, PO Box 45, Kent PA 15752-0045. Any funds leftover from the program will go to the Veteran’s Relief Fund in Indiana County.
