Whooping cough cases in the U.S. are at the highest level seen in a decade, with Pennsylvania at the top of the list.
Cases have been skyrocketing for months, with the CDC warning there’s no sign of a slowdown. The federal health agency says more than 32,000 cases have been reported this year through mid-December, six times more than last year at this time. Pennsylvania is reporting the most cases.
The disease, also known as pertussis, is highly contagious and often starts out with cold-like symptoms followed by a full body cough that can last for months.
