The PA Turnpike is getting ready to roll out a new change starting next year.
Turnpike officials are reminding drivers that stop and go tolling will end next Thursday, January 5th, and they will start open road tolling, which was announced over the summer. Open Road Tolling (ORT) is a modernization effort by the Turnpike which charges tolls electronically as drivers approach gantries without having to stop or slow down.
ORT launches on the mainline PA Turnpike east of Reading along with the Northeast Extension starting next Thursday, then it will launch statewide in 2027.
As the launch date nears, E-ZPass customers are reminded to mount their transponder at all times; Pre-registered Toll-by-Plate or E-ZPass customers should keep vehicles, license plates and credit card information up-to-date; and open an E-ZPass account to take advantage of the most cost-effective ways of travel.
