The Federal Trade Commission is warning the public about a hospice fraud scam, aimed at older adults.
Scammers are contacting citizens through calls, texts, emails, fake ads, and even door-to-door visits claiming they can set you up with free services, such as cooking, cleaning and home health care.
The goal is to get you to sign up for Medicare hospice care, then bill you for the aforementioned services in your name.
To protect yourself from these types of scams, never give your Medicare number to someone offering “free services,” as they do not offer them; never agree to sign up for hospice care in exchange for gifts; and know that Medicare officials will never come to your home and ask you to sign up for their services.
