The Pitt Panthers were bounced by Georgia Tech, 73-67 as the Yellow Jackets’ Duncan Powell burned them for six three-pointers, two of them converted into 4-point plays, and scored 26. Pitt came back to tie the game at 67 but after Tech took a two-point lead, Ish Leggett missed a wide-open layup for the Panthers, and Georgia Tech sealed it from the foul line.
Pitt coach Jeff Capel says the Panthers got caught flat-footed on the boards, getting out-rebounded 37-27, and 12-3 early.
Jaland Lowe scored 25 points and Leggett 20 for Pitt.
At 16-12, the Panthers would likely have to win the ACC Tournament in order to make the NCAA tournament.
