Gilbert “Shorty” D. Minto, Jr., 87, of Cherry Tree, PA died on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The son of Gilbert and Mary Ida (Wyland) Minto, he was born on September 29, 1937 in Clymer, PA.
Shorty served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1956 to 1958 earning the rank of PFC.
He married Carolyn Marie Keith on November 28, 1964 and they shared over sixty years of marriage together.
Shorty worked as a coal miner for over twenty-two years at the Greenwich Collieries.
He was a longtime caretaker of the Uniontown Cemetery. Shorty loved attending activities for his kids and grandkids.
Shorty will be greatly missed by his wife Carolyn, his two children: David Minto and wife Donna of Shelocta, PA and Janet Coy and husband Greg of Clymer, PA; his grandchildren: Kimberly Ferringer (Daniel); Megan Davis (Chad); Ethan Minto (Kamilah); Matthew Coy (Mary); Gabrielle Coy; Spencer Coy (Madeline); Kyleigh Coy; and Katie, Jacob and Joshua Prettyman and his great grandchildren: Nevin; Peyton; Adaela; Torin; Zoey; Wesley; Taliah; Alistair; Roshan; and Bradley. Also survived by Patricia Minto of Clymer, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Chuck Minto and his sisters: Gilberta Klemann and Theda Ball.
Family and friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA with Pastor Bob White officiating. Interment will be at the Uniontown Cemetery.
