The rough start to the 2025 season continued with a fourth straight loss for the Pirates last night in Tampa. Greg Brown recaps the shutout loss.
Manager Derek Shelton says Harrington was rushing his pitches and that affected his control in his Major League debut.
Shelton says other Pirates pitchers, like Mitch Keller, Jared Jones, and Bailey Falter, will help Harrington settle in at the Major League level.
The Pirates yesterday demoted former All-Star closer David Bednar to Indianapolis, and in order for Thomas Harrington to be added to the 40-man roster, they designated catcher Jason Delay for assignment. Bednar has two losses and a blown save in three appearances this season. Shelton says the Bucs “(have) to get him right” in Indy.
The Bucs will try to snap their four-game losing streak this afternoon. Paul Skenes makes his second start of the season against the Rays’ right-hander Ryan Pepiot. It’s a 12:45 airtime, 1:10 first pitch on WCCS.
