The Penguins and the NHL are mourning the death of former general manager Ray Shero, who led the Pens to two Stanley Cup finals, winning the Cup in 2009. Shero brought major talent into the Penguins organization, acquiring the likes of Chris Kunitz, Pascal Dupois and Bill Guerin, and drafting future stars Jake Guentzel, Bryan Rust, Jordan Staal, and goaltenders Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry. He also hired Dan Bylsma as coach.
Shero was 62 years old. No cause of death was announced. He’d been working as a senior advisor for Guerin, the general manager of the Minnesota Wild.
The Penguins have nominated forward Boko Imama for the NHL’s Bill Masterton Trophy, which is given to a player for demonstrating “perseverance, sportsmanship, dedication to hockey.”
The Pens play at New Jersey tomorrow night.
