The Penns Manor Comets and River Valley Panthers were represented in the Shippensburg 98th Roddick High School Invitational on Saturday, and the Comets’ Alex Polenik made his mark in throwing events.
Polenik finished second both in the discus and shot put, scoring eight points in each events and accounting for all of Penns Manor’s 16 points, which tied the Comets for 12th place overall. Polenik threw for a distance of 172-10 in the discus, two feet and one inch short of State College’s Nathan Haas. In the shot put, Polenik’s top put was 54 feet. Logan Newman of East Pennsboro Area won the event at 54-2.25.
For RIver Valley, Brodie Forsha finished 16th in the boys’ 110 hurdles with a time of 15.88. Desmond Reilly finished 25th with a distance of 39-11.25 in the triple jump. For the girls, Gianna Cornman finished 57th in the 100 meter with a time of 13.96 and 24th with a distance of 4-10 in the high jump. Madison Twinchek made a long jump of 14-8.5 and placed 32nd.
