Troopers are investigating a three-vehicle, fatal crash in Indiana County.
On April 26, 2025 at approximately 2:55 p.m., members of the Troop A, Indiana Patrol Unit and first responders were dispatched to a three-vehicle crash on Warren Road approximately 200 feet east of King Hill Road in Center Township.
Upon arrival and investigation, troopers learned that Unit 1, a 2017 GMC SUV, was traveling east on Warren Road at a high rate of speed. As Operator 1 was attempting to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, Unit 1 traveled into the westbound lane. Unit 1 then struck the approximate 8:00 position of Unit 2, a 2009 Ford Focus, which was traveling west on Warren Road. This impact resulted in disabling damage to Unit 2. Unit 1 then continued to travel east within the westbound lane and impacted head-on into Unit 3, a 2013 Toyota Corolla, which was traveling west on Warren Road directly behind Unit 2.
After impact with Unit 3, Unit 1 then exited the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. Unit 1 came to final rest on its roof in the westbound lane of Warren Road facing west. Unit 1 sustained disabling damage.
Unit 2 came to final rest along the westbound shoulder of Warren Road and had sustained disabling damage.
Upon being struck by Unit 1, Unit 3 was pushed off of the roadway and overturned two times. Unit 3 came to final rest on its wheels in a nearby yard.
Operator 1, Daniel L. Ryan, 57, of Indiana, PA, was the sole occupant of Unit 1 and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Operator 2, Denton L. Shively, 31, of Indiana, PA, was the sole occupant of Unit 2 and was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.
Operator 3, Nathan S. Blystone, 34, of Kent, PA, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Operator 3’s passenger, Ashley N. Layton, 33, of Kent, PA, sustained serious injuries and was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Layton’s unborn child was also pronounced deceased.
Units 1, 2, and 3 were each towed by Martin Diesel.
Assisting agencies included the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Indiana County Emergency Management Agency/911, Citizens’ Ambulance Service, STAT MedEvac, Indiana Fire Association, Homer City VFD, Aultman VFD, and the Indiana County Coroner’s Office. A member of the Pennsylvania Game Commission also responded to assist at the scene.
