A Derry Township man faces charges connected with a standoff on Sunday night after he allegedly fired a shotgun in his home.
Police say 51-year-old Randy Beehash refused to leave his home on Adam Lane between Derry Borough and New Derry after officers were called to his home around 9:45 PM. The shot missed a woman across the room by a few feet, but she was hit by falling drywall and other debris. State troopers went in the house after an hour-long standoff and found a hole in the living room wall where the shot went, along with the gun and a box of shells.
Beehash was taken to Independence Health Hospital in Latrobe for treatment of a head injury that happened before police came in. He claims he had no intention of hurting the woman and the shot was fired accidentally.
He is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and related offenses. Bail was denied, so he will stay in Westmoreland County Jail as he awaits a preliminary hearing on May 7th.
