BASEBALL
In a key Heritage Conference West game, West Shamokin scored an unearned run in the first inning and another in the fourth, taking advantage of four errors by Homer-Center to beat the Wildcats 2-0 in a game interrupted for over an hour by storms in the sixth inning. Gunnar Shoop had two hits for the Wolves and Luke McCullough scattered three hits over six-and-a-third innings, striking out ten, with Max Long coming on in the seventh for the save. For Homer-Center, Brayden Rado had two hits and starter Noah Turk struck out eleven.
In the East, the two top teams met at Conemaugh Township and Northern Cambria hammered the Indians, 11-1 in five innings. Caleb Dolney threw a one-hitter for the Colts and had two hits at the dish with two runs driven in. Shane Gisler had three hits and drove in two and Brad Valeria had two hits.
United knocked off Portage 8-6. Ryan Felix had two hits and two RBIs in a seven-hit attack by the Lions. Portage got three hits apiece from Easton Slanoc, Nathan Phillips, and Jake McCoy.
Cambria Heights edged Conemaugh Valley 8-7 in a game shortened to five innings by the storms. Nolan Clawson, Austin Sprague, Garrett Jasper, and Anthony Swander all had two hits for the Highlanders. Logan Heinlein had three hits and Wes Smith two for the Blue Jays.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center scored two in the first inning and three in the fourth to beat Purchase Line 5-1 in six.
Alexa Fox, Braelyn Pattison, and Ashley Lockard all had two hits as Northern Cambria wiped out Conemaugh Township 12-1.
Portage downed United 14-1 in five.
West Shamokin led Homer-Center 4-1 in the fourth inning when the game was suspended by rain.
