Crews from Penelec and REA energy are getting closer to full restoration of power from Tuesday’s unprecedented storms.
As of this morning, Penelec reports 2,189 customers in Indiana County without power, while REA energy says 3,088 of its cooperative members are still in the dark this morning.
REA said that they have two substations that are still affected by the loss of transmission feed from their supplier, Penelec’s parent company First Energy. They have said that the repairs have to go from the substation to the three-phase power distribution lines to the one-phase lines and then to the individual homes. Full power restoration for their customers is expected to take some time, but once it is restored to the substations, they will be able to assess storm-related damage.
First Energy representatives called the storm the second worst since 2009 in Western Pennsylvania. They expect Indiana County to have full power restoration by 11:00 tonight, but that could change based on conditions.
Both companies have called in crews from other subsidiaries and cooperatives to help with the repair effort.
